4×4 Driver Training
4×4 – Professional

4×4 vehicles continue to provide a versatile platform for accessing difficult ground over longer distances and fulfilling a dual-role where travel both on and off road, or during periods of adverse weather is required.

4×4 vehicles provide a unique challenge for workplace users, with compromises regarding the centre of gravity, load carrying capacity and trailer towing capability to be taken into consideration alongside off road capability.

Off Road Consultancy provide the industry Leading LANTRA suite of 4×4 training courses, which fulfil all the requirements placed on employers under the Health and Safety at work act 1974 and the Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 and are recognised by the HSE/HSENI in the UK and the HSA in the republic of Ireland.

ORC provide both levels of training currently offered by LANTRA:

1 Day Principles of off road operating

This course is ideally suited to users who will encounter only moderate conditions as part of their planned use of 4×4 vehicles but require an understanding of how to use the vehicle systems and driver aids to transit safely across low traction surfaces, unsurfaced tracks and basic obstacles.

This course is well suited to users of lower clearance 4wd and AWD vehicles that may not be equipped with dual range transmissions. Example, Mitsubishi Outlander, Skoda Kodiaq, Transporter 4Motion

2 day Using Vehicles in Off Road and Adverse conditions.

The 2 day course is designed for users who are likely to encounter more demanding terrain as part of their day to day usage of 4×4 vehicles

In addition to the topics covered in the 1 day course, candidates will usually cover;

  • Operating vehicle on steep ground
  • Recovering from failed hill climbs
  • Clambering obstacles
  • Wheel lift/loss of traction
  • Crossing ditches/ruts and ridges
  • Wading
  • Basic self recovery (this may be theory or practical)

The 2 day course usually requires a vehicle with high ground clearance, suitable tyres (All Terrain/Mud Terrain Pattern) and dual range transmission. Example, Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Landrover Defender
